Covid-19 Grapher

This is a python flask based web application for generating and exporting graphs and animations for the different data elements associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The web app allows anyone to generate almost all possible graphs concerning the current Covid-19 Pandemic. I have tried to make the whole process as simple and self explanatory as possible. The user just selects the relevant options and then proceeds to view/download the generated graph/animation.

The webapp is currently also hosted on heroku here .

Overview

The webapp first parses the data from the John Hopkins University Covid - 19 Data repository. The user enters a number of specifications for the graphs using the web interface. The user can select which data points to plot, what kinds of axes to use, which countries to plot the data for and many other specifications. After this, the previously parsed data is used to generate the graph according to the user's preferences and the graph is then displayed to the user on the website. The user has an option of saving the image/video file or to start bulding a new graph.

The entire UI has been kept very minimal and functional for ease of use. A combination of python flask, Bootstrap and jinja has been used to create the web interface. There is also a contact page which sends user queries directly to the developer's email.

Setup

The flask server runs using a python virtual environment for dependencies.

virtualenv -p python3 .env
source .env/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt
flask run

The webapp will be hosted on localhost this way and can be accessed using the address displayed in the terminal.

Usage

Once the webapp is running, visit the address printed on the terminal to access the web interface. From there the user can set all the relevant parameters as per their requirements and then click on "Generate Graph" to display the final result.
