#MerchBuddy

This is a project which scrapes the item price data from each tradable item in Runescape and places it into a MYSQL Database located on a server local to this project, which is then analyzed to find the best item(s) for merching, as well as other various information that can be drawn from price trends.

The Goal -This tool will check item price and trend information daily, along with other game data, such as player base size, and seasonal trends, from a list of tradable items, which we have compiled and placed onto my server in a mySQL database, and store it in another database, where it will be analyzed daily by a healthy assortment of machine learning algorithms to find and predict useful information, such as the percent likelihood of price increases, decreases, as well as which items appear to be the best to invest in, or get rid of. Our algorithms will aim to handle both long term and short term trends to deliver the greatest accuracy possible in suggestions.

8-9-2016

  • Justin Auger has created a MySQL insertion script that will take the information found by the scrape2.py script and place it into a table located on our server. Justin's script has not been uploaded yet, which is why there is an import in scrape2.py that looks foreign. I have added a credential hiding system to Justin's script, however, so it will be uploaded shortly. The scrape2.py script is working, but, will continue to be improved as I find ways to do so.

8-10-2016

  • Added more data variables to the initial scraping script (named 'scrape2.py' for now) that will be used to store any data that we may need for analysis. Just waiting on Justin's mySQL insertion tool to be updated to accommodate the changes. The backup logs were also modified; they are now csv files to more neatly store the increased amount of data per item. Now that I am able to scrape all the items once, I will work on a second script to run that will only run through the items that are tradable to decrease the necessary run time to complete a full scan. That function is currently operational, however, I will not push it until it, too, has the extended data that was just added into the initial scraper.

8-13-2016

  • The mySQL insertion tool has been completed, so the initial scraper and primary scrapers are fully fuctional as far as data storing goes. Improvements will continue to be made, however. Daily scrapes will be setup on our server to start collecting data. Run time should be around 12:00 daily to ensure the game update has taken place already.

  • Improved the new daily scraping tool to ensure that the script does not, for any reason, stop after initialization. Also set the script to run daily at 12PM via crontab on my linux server. The inital scraper tool found about 4000 tradable items in the 50000 item Ids that I searched through. I am now using that list of tradable items as the list to search through and scrape daily for information from the daily scraper (primary_scraper). The tool goes line by line through one mySQL database and uses the ID to input information from the same itemID into a second database, which will then be used by our algorithms to begin finding the best items to merch, as well as other information, such as likelihood of certain item prices to raise, drop, or even out. More information on what our algorithms will do is coming in future updates, as they are currently being built. Structured write-ups have just been shared and discussed for initial concept ideas.

9-14-2016

  • Started creating an algorithm to find the average daily change of each item. I still need to add documentation, as well as complete the script. As of now, the script runs through each item_id and calculates the daily change, and then finds the average. There must be further development to save the daily averages for future lookup, and I wish to create an all-time min/max value in case that proves useful. Future notes will expand on the features of this script.

2-24-2018

  • Added minimal functionality for training regression models on the price data for items. This includes simple regressors found in SKLearn, and allows iteration over all possible models to ensure the best one is used.
