Froide is Freedom Of Information Portal written in Python using Django 1.3. The name comes (obviously) from Freedom of Information (de). Also Froide sounds like the Freude which is German for joy. Which makes Froide pleasant to talk about.
It's first use will be the FoI site fragdenstaat.de. Despite the .de, Froide is fully internationalized and written in English.
Froide has the following goals
- easy to setup
- completely internationalized and localized from the ground up
- flexible for different uses through configuration
- high test coverage
Froide uses the Django web framework version 1.3. For search it uses Solr with Django-haystack. For background task it uses Celery with Django-celery. South is used for schema migrations. Any other requirements can be found in requirements.txt
- Setup virtualenv and clone project
- Install requirements: pip install -r requirements.txt
- Setup Solr and create solr schema with python manage.py build_solr_schema and put it in your solr directory
