Fly Airtech

Airtech is an airline that has had challenges with using spreadsheets to manage their flight booking system. They are ready to automate their processes with an application and so I have set out to build a flight booking application for the company.

Installation

  1. Ensure you have Python3 installed in your system. Python 3.6 and above is required.

  2. If you do not have virtualenv or virtualenvwrapper setup, install virtualenv which is a tool that lets you create an isolated Python environment for your project.

pip3 install virtualenv
  1. Clone this repository from Github
git clone git@github.com:ignatiusukwuoma/airtech.git
  1. Navigate into the project directory
cd airtech
  1. Create a virtual environment and activate it. Specify Python3 when creating it.
virtualenv -p python3 venv
source venv/bin/activate

Replace venv with your desired virtualenv name. You should see a (venv) appear at the beginning of your terminal prompt indicating that you are working inside the virtualenv.

  1. Install the required packages
pip3 install -r requirements.txt
  1. Create a .env file in the root directory with the content of the .env.sample and edit with your personal details. I have used PostgreSQL for this project but you can use any database that Django supports.

Starting the app

To run this application on your local computer, follow the instructions in Installation above and run

python3 manage.py runserver

Stopping the app

To stop the application at any time, hit Ctrl (or Cmd) + C

Running the tests

The tests are located in the tests.py module of each application. You can run the test for the flights application:

python3 manage.py test flights

A new database will be created to run your tests and will be destroyed after the test. You can specify the name to be given to this database by specifying a NAME in the DATABASES.default.TEST object in your settings. Default is to prefix the NAME of your development database with test_.

You can also run the tests with Coverage.py

coverage run --source='.' manage.py test flights
