catkin_tester

A pre-build local source install of the ROS navigtion stack, Turtlebot backends, and dependencies

Introduction

This repository is a ros workspace. So please clone it to your home folder (as per the instructions below. If you put in inside a pre-existing catkin workspace...well, things will get interesting.

The build configuration has been customized to compile all packages a position-independent executables/libs. So (if it has been set up correctly), you might not nessisarily have to recompile it -- the libs and binaries, should (in theory, anyway) be functional on your own system.

Build

source /opt/ros/rosdesktop_ws/devel_isolated/setup.bash
cd
git clone [this-repo]


# build external dependencies
cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/SDL2
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/SDL_image
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/flann
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make
# copy all the library files from ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/flann/build/lib to ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/flann/build/CMakeFiles/Export/lib
# open flann-config.cmake located at ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/flann/build/generated, and replace the line "#include("${CMAKE_CURRENT_LIST_DIR}/flann-targets.cmake")" with "include("${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/../ros_external_depends/flann/build/CMakeFiles/Export/lib/cmake/flann/flann-targets.cmake")"

cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/qhull
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make


cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/orocos-bayesian-filtering
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/orocos-bayesian-filtering/bfl_typekit
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/orocos-bayesian-filtering/orocos_bfl
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

# 1) download the PCL source library: https://github.com/PointCloudLibrary/pcl/releases
# 2) make sure you use version 1.7, NOT 1.8
# then do the following...
cd ~/catkin_tester/ros_external_depends/pcl
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make

cd ~/catkin_tester
source /opt/ros/rosdesktop_ws/devel_isolated/setup.bash
catkin_make

You should be good to go. However, I strongly suggest that you link this workspace to your catkin_ws, so that catkin_make does not re-evaluate all these packages every time you want to rebuild your own projects
