This is a small playground project, intended to eventually grow into a flashcard-style vocabulary trainer. Not inteded for public consumption yet. Technology-wise, I'm aiming to teach myself python and appengine by diving in and getting something running, and to explore various single-page app javascript frameworks. So this is definitely not clean code or good architecture. current status: API mocked and partially implemented. no frontend yet. Goals: The best training app is one that actually gets used. Vocabeza therefore aims to be - easy to use, so you can worry about what you are learning, not about learning how to use the app - efficient, so you see fast results - non-annoying, or as fun as a study aid can be - motivating, by showing your progress. Non of that achievements gamification nonsense, though. - portable, so you can use it anywhere. - pretty Planned features: - Flashcard training according to the Leitner system (5 buckets, depending on how often you remembered correctly) (similar to vtrain) - Keeping track of difficulty (only correct/failed tests (maybe using levenstein distance to correct answer?) - letting the user rank the difficulty every time, as supermemo does it, would be too much work for the user) - Sorting cards in each bucket by "urgency", determined by difficulty and time since last test - For the first bucket, keeping a buffer of a small number of cards that get repeated until learnt (similar to provoc) - Automatically preventing duplicate entries - Easy entry of non-ascii characters - Caching for working offline Non-features: - Vocabulary, not general knowledge - vocabeza should be useless for anything but language vocabulary. Will definitely not support differnt card types etc. - No configuration whatsoever for nr of buckets, buffer size, difficulty settings etc - No support for non-latin or right-to-left alphabets. Maybe later, but not before the rest of the app is truly polished. - Not more than one button to enter an answer, not more than one keypress (except for typing) per word - Not more than one statistic/graph: tests for time period - No images, sounds, long texts or custom fields per card. No text formatting, plaintext only. - No more than one level of organization per language. Some kind of bucket per chapter etc is probably needed, but definitely no nested tree structure. - No security, except protection against accidental damage or non-serious vandalism - No unnecessary animations Glossary: Word: a single flashcard Quiz: a single test whether you know a word or not Box: a collection of words Bucket: a collection of words in the same state of learning
