DISCLAIMER

The RACS prototype is a research project and may contain bugs. Under no
circumstances should it be used with important data that is not backed up
elsewhere. But you knew that.

Additionally, RACS does not currently implement any form of authentication
from the client's end, meaning anyone will be able to access your RACS proxy
if it is on an accessible host/port.

RACS was developed on Linux. There's no reason it shouldn't work on other
platforms, but we haven't tried it. Let us know.

INSTALLATION

	0. Requires Python >= 2.5

	1. You'll need to install these third-party Python packages:
    	   	  lxml XML manipulation library
    	   	  zfec Erasure coding library
boto (needed for Amazon S3 repositories)
cloudfiles (needed for Rackspace Cloudfiles repositories)

	2. If you plan on using ZooKeeper (for multi-proxy RACS), you will
need to run a ZooKeeper server.

    3. If you have rearranged RACS files, you may need to add the "python"
directory to your PYTHONPATH environment variable.

QUICKSTART

	1. Create a configuration file.
	   See sample.config for instructions.

	2. To run,
	      bin/racs [configfile]

(or "python.exe bin\racs [configfile]" on Windows)

KNOWN BUGS

* boto, the Python wrapper for Amazon Web Services, is not thread safe.
RACS S3 repositories therefore do not run S3 queries in parallel, making
them much slower than they should be.
