Ironic-UCS

This is Cisco Systems's Juno version of Ironic project. Added support for the Cisco UCS B/C-series servers. This code is not available in community for Juno rlease. It will be available in Kilo release through community.

Installation instructions

Follow the steps available @ http://docs.openstack.org/developer/ironic/deploy/install-guide.html to setup Baremetal service. Install ironic and ironicclient from apt-get repository, this takes care of creating ironic user and required directory structure.

Follow these stpes to use Cisco version of ironic plugin.

Clone git repo of ironic, and ironicclient. git clone https://github.com/CiscoUcs/Ironic-UCS.git git clone https://github.com/CiscoUcs/UCS-python-ironicclinet.git

Install ironic cd Ironic-UCS; python setup.py install

Install ironic-pythonclient cd UCS-python-ironicclinet; python setup.py install

Update /etc/ironic/ironic.conf.

Start Ironic-API: su -s /bin/sh -c "/usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/ironic-api -v -d
--config-file /etc/ironic/ironic.conf &" ironic

Start Ironic-conductor: su -s /bin/sh -c "/usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/ironic-conductor -v -d
--config-file /etc/ironic/ironic.conf &" ironic

UCS PySDK

The plugin works with UCS PySDK 0.8.1 version. This version of UCS PySDK is available @ https://github.com/CiscoUcs/UcsPythonSDK.

Known Issues

Few DEBUG messages in the ironic logs are actually logged as ERROR messages.

Ironic

Ironic is an Incubated OpenStack project which aims to provision bare metal machines instead of virtual machines, forked from the Nova Baremetal driver. It is best thought of as a bare metal hypervisor API and a set of plugins which interact with the bare metal hypervisors. By default, it will use PXE and IPMI in concert to provision and turn on/off machines, but Ironic also supports vendor-specific plugins which may implement additional functionality.
