Experimental Details

  • Experimental paradigm: central fixation
  • auditory stimulus conditions:
    • naturalistic Japanese speech (non-native language), played forwards
    • naturalistic Japanese speech (non-native language), played backwards (version3 only)
    • birdsong (recording)
  • Japanese speech recorded by a Japanese mother reading a storybook
  • Condition manipulation (within-subjects):
    • version3: three conditions: Japanese speech forwards, Japanese speech backwards, birdsong
    • version4: two conditions: Japanese speech forwards, birdsong
